Racy models likely a no-show at China motor show
SHANGHAI–In keeping with a government campaign against “hedonism,” models in sexy outfits may not feature at this year’s Auto Shanghai car show, according to local media reports.
The Shanghai-based Xinwen Chenbao, also known as the Shanghai Morning Post, reported that the organizers of Auto Shanghai are considering prohibiting the female promotional models at the event scheduled for April.
Auto Shanghai is one of China’s largest auto shows. It is held every two years in turn with Auto China, another biennial motor event set in Beijing.
Motor shows in China have been the target of domestic criticism, in part, due to the revealing outfits worn by models at the events.
The move has sparked online debate in China. “Auto aficionados visiting the show can look at the cars at their own pace without interference from those who just go to photograph the models,” one person said.
“Hedonism” is one of the targets of a crackdown on corruption and extravagance under President Xi Jinping’s leadership.
